‘Race to Witch Mountain’ Remake Stumbles
Let me just say that I don't like all these remakes that have been popping up every other week for the last few years. Not to say that they weren't good movies, but by sheer definition alone, they’re not as good as the original, in most cases. I mean, would you go to a restaurant and order old, re-heated food? Then why would you want anything less from a movie? Being very fond of the original movies, “Escape to Witch Mountain” and its sequel “Return to Witch Mountain.” I found “Race to Witch Mountain” to be just that: reheated food. I can only say that the new film just doesn't measure up. Even with all its special effects and action scenes, it just isn't as good as a magical little movie about two alien kids named Tony and Tia with special powers trying to find out who they are and where they come from. The movie makers think that bigger is better; I think bigger is just bigger, and, of course, louder and — after a while — just plain annoying.
Be Sure to Watch ‘Watchmen’
They said it couldn't be filmed, but it was. I should know because I spent two hours and 41 minutes watching it. They said that it couldn't be made into a good film, but they were wrong again because I enjoyed it. “Watchmen,” based on the 1986 graphic novel, is an epic of a movie that shows the ugly side of life. It takes us into a world in 1985, where Richard Nixon is still president and superheroes really do exist, but these aren’t your grandfather’s superheroes. These guys are so mean and dark that they make "The Dark Knight" look like “The Princess Diaries.”

Get “Taken” On A Real Thrill Ride
For anyone who has seen the coming attractions for the movie “Taken” — you know the one where Liam Neeson (“Love, Actually”) tells the man who just kidnapped his daughter Kim (played by Maggie Grace of TV’s “Lost”) that he has certain skills, he will find them and he will kill them — then you already know the plot and can probably guess the ending.
Movies: 'Way of War,' Starring Cuba Gooding, Jr. Available on DVD
First Look Studios proudly announced on February 10 the DVD release of "Way of War," starring Cuba Gooding Jr. In this gripping thriller, Gooding Jr. ("Jerry Maguire") plays paramilitary operative David Wolfe, who stumbles upon an international conspiracy connecting presidential cabinet members to a Middle Eastern terrorist plot. Wanting to expose the truth, Wolfe defies orders and returns to the US as an army of one fighting for American security and integrity.
You’ll Sink Your Teeth Into ‘Underworld: Rise of the Lycans’
Attention, all moviegoers: If you’re looking to see a good vampire movie, then forget “Twilight” and the wispy Cullen clan. Instead, go see the new movie “Underworld: Rise of the Lycans.” This is the third movie in the “Underworld” series and — out of the three — the best. It has all the action, blood and storyline the other two films lacked.
Movies: 'Taken' Opens January 30
Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation has announced that the film "Taken" will be released in theaters nationwide on January 30. In "Taken," Liam Neeson ("The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe") plays Bryan Mills, a former government operative who has less than four days to find his kidnapped daughter (played by Maggie Grace), who has been taken on her first day of vacation in Paris.
‘King’ James Rules in ‘Paul Blart: Mall Cop’
Ladies and gentlemen, the King is alive and well and funnier than ever. No, I don’t mean Elvis, I mean the “King of Queens” himself — Kevin James. James is starring in “Paul Blart: Mall Cop,” a very funny, action-packed movie that goes from being a funny movie about a mall security guard to a comical “Die Hard” with more laughs then an Adam Sandler movie, with enough action that would make Bruce Willis jealous. James is Paul Blart, a dedicated sad sack of a mall security guard who washed out of the police academy, but still has the dream of one day becoming a real police officer.
“Marley & Me” Is Dog-Gone Good
I just saw the movie “Marley and Me” and I must say that I was very surprised. Because, going in, I thought it was going to be a typical dog movie (like “Beethoven” or “Turner and Hooch”), but, unlike those movies, somewhere along the way, “Marley and Me” gets very real. It is a cute little movie about a newly married couple and their crazy, unmanageable dog Marley, who chews and eats everything in sight.
These “Bedtime Stories” Are Worth Staying Up For
Listen up, readers! Disney has done it again, because “Bedtime Stories” is a magical, highly imaginative movie, about a happy, lovable lug who does not have a care in the world. When he starts to spin tales to his niece and nephew, he finds to his disbelief that the stories come true — or do they? Adam Sandler (“Happy Gilmore”) stars as Skeeter Benson, who works as a maintenance man in a five-star hotel that was once owned by his carefree father (Jonathan Pryce, “Tomorrow Never Dies”). He was a great dad (always telling Skeeter bedtime stories), but a bad businessman
‘Four Christmases’: Just Fair Holiday Fare
Ever since Frank Capra’s “Its A Wonderful Life” became a Christmas classic, Hollywood has been trying to put out a new Christmas classic every year. “Four Christmases” is not that movie. I sat in the theater waiting for the laughs, but they never came. Vince Vaughn, who had me rolling in films like “Old School” and “Dodgeball,” seemed to be going through the motions, and Reese Witherspoon (“Legally Blonde”) looked like she phoned in her performance.
“Twilight” Has No Bite
I must be getting old, because I don't understand the whole Twilight phenomenon (the book series written by Stephanie Meyer, about a vampire and a human girl who fall in love.) Having not read the books, I went into the movie with an open mind and a clean slate — no preconceived notions or expectations. I should have read the books. Let me just say in the most clichéd way: Twilight bites. It is the most boring movie I have seen in years. In fact, it is so boring that it makes The English Patient look like a four-on-the-floor, slam-bam action thrill ride.
No Shortage of Action in Quantum of Solace
Ever since I was a little kid, I have always looked forward to a new James Bond movie. I have seen them all and, for the most part, loved them all. Quantum Of Solace — the 22nd Bond film — is no exception. In short, I loved it. It is an action-packed juggernaut that hardly lets you catch your breath.
However, being a fan, I have come to expect certain things from my Bond films...
Role Models: Don’t Think About It, Just Watch It & Enjoy
I hated like hell that I had to sit through Role Models, but the simple truth is that, despite all the stupid sex jokes – the kind of jokes that made the Porky’s movies so popular back in the 1980s – and a foul-mouthed 10-year-old kid that would make the Bad News Bears run for cover, the movie is funny, with enough laughs to make it a good time at the movies.
